Take a 2 mile hike down to monument and go snorkeling with lots of fish, dolphin and whales in Kealakekua Bay. Its a rigorous steep climb back up. Bring plenty of water.

Walk up to this famous monument dedicated to the Captain Cook, just outside Great Ayton 20 minute drive. Great panoramic views of the Tees Valley. Part of the Cleveland Way Walk.

Drive up to Gribdale car park and walk up to the monument - it will take an average of 20 minutes as a direct walk - great views when you get there

"Great place for an easy family bike hike." "Great walk for all the family." "Freezing cold and raining sideways, still beautiful views and thoroughly enjoyed"

Fantastic views. On a heather-clad moor overlooking the Yorkshire village of Great Ayton stands Captain Cook's Monument, a striking obelisk erected in 1827 in memory of the seafaring famous explorer, who was born six miles away in Marton but grew up in Great Ayton. Captain Cook would have walked these moors when he lived at Great Ayton from 1736-1745. He attended the local school (now the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum) on the High Street.
