Our place is a short walk from shopping, restaurants, and features: -Private entrance -Kitchenette -Backyard with firepit and garden -Minutes from ferry terminal servicing Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. With so much to explore in this area (30min to PVD, Newport and Cape Cod), we recommend renting a car. There is limited access to public transportation. Please note: the stove is an electric hot plate with two burners.
The Captain James Henry Swift House Circa 1844Located in the quaint seaside town of Fairhaven. Enter the house through a private entrance that leads you to your private formal parlor which features a black marble fireplace, custom draperies and french doors. The private dining room adjacent to the parlor is accented by a fireplace with rare Bennington tiles and a built in china cabinet. Up the grand staircase to the second floor is your private bedroom and bath. The bedroom has a very comfortable queen size bed with 2 closets for storage and a fireplace. The utmost care was taken to provide you with a comfortable yet elegant atmosphere. It also includes fine sheets and towels, a mini refrigerator with drinks and a Keurig for tea or coffee. This Nantucket-style Greek Revival house was built for Captain James Henry Swift in 1844. He is the original owner but the house is revered as the residence of Job C. Tripp, a close associate of Henry H. Rogers and best known for his many years of community service to the town of Fairhaven. While residing in the house, from 1865 through 1917, he hosted Manjiro Nakahama on his second visit to Fairhaven, and also entertained Dr. Nakahama, Manjiro's grandson. Manjiro Nakahama is well known as the Japanese boy rescued at sea by Captain Whitfield and brought by him to live in Fairhaven for several years. Manjiro eventually became a national hero in Japan which has resulted in a visit to the town by the Japanese Emperor and many visits by Japanese tourist.
