Local Towns to Explore
Hastings has a full grocery store, restaurants and other stores (20 min further up Hwy 45) including a really good ice creme shop just after the bridge. . While you sample some of the local sweets check out the Trent Waterway locks that were built more then 100yrs ago and still operating today
Our personal favourite restaurant is McGillicafeys It has a great patio and serves more than 10 craft brews on tap. Try the pizza ... you won't be disappointed.

You probably passed through Roseneath on the way to the Cottage.... if you did you drove right by the Red Barn which sells just about anything from frozen food to beer/wine to general groceries as well as a little takeout burger shop that makes some pretty amazing food ... on the way there you can stop in at the local native gas station for some really cheap gas. :)
If you happen to be around on Sunday afternoon (1 to 3pm) and looking for something to do check out the Roseneath Carousel. Originally installed by the town in 1932 the Carousel is a local favorite for all ages.

About 30 min from the cottage you will find Campbellford. This tourist town has a variety of restaurants to satisfy any palate. Hiking
For those of you interested in taking in some of natures pure beauty while getting some exercise I would recommend the Northumberland Forest Trails.
There is a trail for all ages and capabilities ranging from as little as 1km to almost 15km.
The forest is accessed via Beagle Club Road about 15 minutes south of the cottage (if you were coming from TO you would have passed it).

Beagle Club RoadFor those of you interested in taking in some of natures pure beauty while getting some exercise I would recommend the Northumberland Forest Trails.
There is a trail for all ages and capabilities ranging from as little as 1km to almost 15km.
The forest is accessed via Beagle Club Road about 15 minutes south of the cottage (if you were coming from TO you would have passed it).
Sightseeing
For those of you that want a bit of adventure I would recommend checking out the Warsaw Caves.
You don't have to be a professional spelunker to enjoy the experience of crawling through these shallow caves. Each is well marked and there is not much of a chance of getting lost.
The caves are located about 35min north of the cottage in the town of Warsaw ... it's well well worth the drive and entry fee.

Warsaw Caves Conservation Area and Campground

Keene holds of Ontario's wonders .... Muddy's Pit BBQ.
Located just 30 minutes from the cottage this local hometown BBQ joint has it all for the meat lover.
Specializing in pork back ribs, pulled pork, and beef brisket as everyday staples they also have some interesting daily specials Sides include your standard beans and coleslaw but occasionally you may find other interesting sides like chilli nachos, or pasta salad on the daily menu.
Last time i was there i ordered the Carnivore Sampler (recommended by many) and it was to die for.
