One of the best castles I've ever seen, including Europe. Well worth the time to visit. (Climbing on stairs and footpaths required.) Fabulous views of the sea, mountain range and occasionally Turkey.

Hike to Buffavento Castle, north of Nikosia.
Short, but rugged hike to another terrific castle (in addition to St. Hilarion near Kyrenia) in the Five-Fingers Mt. Chain that runs parallel to the north coast. Wear sturdy shoes, multiple layers, lunch and water, camera and binoculars. All-day affair.
