Bird's Nest Yurt is a lovely 30' Pacific Yurt. Standard rental is for 2 with $15/night/person over that.(People of all backgrounds are welcome) Bedroom is insulated with air and heat. The open area has a full kitchen, dining and living areas. Wi-fi is reliable.The bathroom is at the end of a short attached breezeway. The Birds Nest sits on a private 5 acre parcel on a view ridge between the Middle and South Yuba sharing space with an occupied family home.

The yurt has been a multi-use space over the years. It has provided long term housing for family, studio space for local artists, and sat fallow when not needed. I am excited to have the opportunity to offer this lspace on Airbnb.
It's a unique and inspiring place to spend time throughout the year.
We are located just 5 minutes from a lovely cool and clear swimming hole on the Middle Yuba River, and about 15 minutes to the nearest South Yuba access. Summers are hot up here so plan some river time to cool off.
Spring is normally cool in the early mornings warming throughout the late morning into very pleasant afternoons and evenings. My favorites during those days are the dogwoods, and redbuds. We are always hopeful for the precious rain to continue into May and June. Mosquito nets on the doors keeps flying critters out.
Winters can bring wild'n'wet storms with wind and some snow. The wood stove keeps you warm stoked from our wood shed just outside. The fall colors are enchanting. The property is forested by pines, cedars, fir, oaks and wild animals. Deer, Turkeys, and the occasional bear can be seen here. A Red-Shouldered Hawk has a nest we have been observing for some years now, the flowering gardens and meadow are great habitat for our local and migratory birds. We are on the flyway for both south and north migrations of sand hill cranes. Spotting them high over the trees circling, moving and calling to each other is always a thrill. The seasonal changes offer different skies, colors, flora and fauna. We are 16 miles from Nevada City, 28 miles from Downieville, 65 miles from Sugar Bowl..

The area has much to offer to visitors and as a resident of the Ridge I can say the local community is diverse and full of wonderful characters. We are 7 minutes from Ananda Village, 5 minutes to the Middle Yuba and 10 minutes to the South Yuba For active people there are trails for biking and hiking. The Yuba River is a beautiful wild and scenic treasure. Swimming fishing and rafting opportunities abound.
Downieville and the Sierra Buttes are 35 and 50 minutes away respectively The Buttes offer opportunities for high country camping , wilderness and beautiful trails for hiking and biking. There is a rich history here of both indigenous people and more recent inhabitants (gold mining, back to the land movement, family ranches, organic farms, artists, musicians.) The North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center provides local entertainment (it houses an annual Story Telling Festival weekend) and now another entertainment venue has opened in nearby Camptonville. Nevada City and Grass Valley are within a 20 minute drive through the river canyon. There you will find art galleries, restaurants, book stores and entertainment venues . It’s a place where people love to live and a place to visit and enjoy as well

19 years ago, on a "just looking " trip in Nevada County, one of my adult sons and I drove down this driveway and made a rash decision to buy the home and acreage. My grown sons and I all consider it home, even though I am the only one living here. We have built a huge garden, a small barn, made the garage a studio and now have decided to rent the yurt through Airbnb.
I worked for the first 14 years--first in a small independent bookstore, then I returned to nursing. Now I am enjoying the busy life of a retired person. The little community here on the Ridge and the larger ones of Nevada City and Grass Valley are full of people, ideas, music, poetry and natural beauty.
I enjoy hosting people in the yurt. Their enjoyment, of the yurt, the property and the larger area of this foothill community makes hosting a pleasure.
