In Costa Rica the government has implemented the standard 13% sales tax to apply to home owner rentals as well. The owner collects and submits this tax to the government. As Airbnb does not handle this in their payment collection and disbursal, the owner must be paid this tax by the renter as an extra fee upon arrival. The tax payment should be paid in cash in U.S. $ or the local currency equivalent. The 13% is calculated over the rent received by the owner, and adds no tax to service charge payment to airbnb by the renter.
