A long and successful corporate career afforded me the luxury of retiring at 46 and moving from the cloudy Midwest to the sunny Southwest. I have lived in Tucson since 2002. After founding and running a nonprofit animal welfare agency for several years, I retired *again* to pursue my other loves -- writing and painting. My personal essays have been published in a number of literary reviews, and I have loved the challenge of capturing in oil on canvas the beauty of the high desert. My spouse Vicky and I are avid travelers: Africa, South America, Australia, most of Central America, Mexico (Cabo San Lucas is an annual favorite!) and all parts of the US, enjoying driving trips all the way to Vermont and back, along the East Coast to southern Florida, and along the West Coast, from the San Juan Islands off the coast of Vancouver, Washington, and down to beautiful San Diego. Several years ago, we responded to a tiny little classified ad in Sunset Magazine and rented a little log cabin on the Pecos River outside Santa Fe, one of our favorite cities. We fell in love with this charming, 100-year-old cabin and the surrounding Pecos Wilderness. At the end of our stay, we asked the owners if they would consider selling the cabin. They declined, so we returned several times until finally, about twelve years ago, we received a postcard from the owners notifying their prior guests that they were going to list the property for sale. The next morning, I was on a plane to Albuquerque and came home the next day with an agreement in hand. Now, we spend as much time as possible at this little "piece of heaven" and also welcome special guests who appreciate the beauty and serenity of the spectacular Santa Fe National Forest and Pecos Wilderness, and who find respite from hectic daily lives and the pressures of jobs and family in this secluded spot on the Pecos River. When we're home in Tucson, we stay grounded in the company of many good friends, our black and white standard poodle Panda, our two cats, Spike, the smart and brazen red cat, and Mouse, the twenty-six-toed, blue-eyed white cat (sweet and beautiful but frankly not the sharpest tool in the shed). While I spend my time writing, painting and napping, Vicky, a semi-retired psychotherapist, devotes much of her time to her first love: photography. Her work is carried in galleries from coast to coast and in personal and corporate collections throughout the country. We would love to welcome you to our favorite spot on earth, Pecos River Cabin. You'll find here a much-loved retreat filled with Vicky's photographs and my paintings, as well as a large and varied library of books, DVDs, games and puzzles for all ages and interests. Whether your interests are hiking and fishing , shopping and sight-seeing, or just lounging in the hammock or beside the wood stove with a good book, Pecos River Cabin is the perfect home base for a few days, a week or more to recharge your batteries and see some of the Southwest's most breathtaking landscapes.
