Travel back in time and enjoy a ride on a heritage train with Goldfields Railway. Journey between Waihi and Waikino at the eastern end of the spectacular Karangahake Gorge. Experience a section of what used to be known as the East Coast Main Trunk Line which stretched from Auckland to Taneatua south of Te Puke. Enjoy an area rich in history, including historic goldmining which shaped much of this part of the Southern Coromandel. Have a break at Waikino Station with a hot or cold drink and a Devonshire scone. Alternatively take time to visit the gorge and historic sites, then return to Waihi on a later train.

Catch the train from Waihi and travel to Waikino where there is a quaint vintage cafe (excellent food) and then return to Waihi. Alternatively throw your bike on the train and continue on from Waikino to Paeroa on the cycle trail. The train has covered carriages and an open wagon. The attending staff are full of information and make the trip more interesting. It is a fun experience for all ages.

Enjoy a fun, historic train ride from Waihi to the Waikino Railway Station! Stop a while and have something to eat at the Waikino Station Café. You can take your bicycle on the train for an extra $2.
