MASS MoCA is one of the world’s liveliest (and largest) centers for making and enjoying today’s most important art, music, dance, theater, film, and video. Hundreds of works of visual and performing art have been created on its 19th-century factory campus during fabrication and rehearsal residencies, making MASS MoCA among the most productive sites in the country for the creation and presentation of new art. More platform than box, MASS MoCA strives to bring to its audiences art experiences that are fresh, engaging, and transformative.

The Cascades Trail is a short, beautiful river walk following the Notch Brook in North Adams from the end of Marion Avenue to a popular cascading waterfall. A hidden in-town gem, this trail is minutes away from downtown areas of North Adams and Williamstown and is short enough to walk on a whim for anyone looking to squeeze a nice hike into a limited amount of time. This trail has been protected from motorized vehicle traffic for many years and is now maintained by the Trustees of Reservations of Western Massachusetts for hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, fishing and swimming. The entire hike takes about an hour and a half and is flat enough for even the most inexperienced hikers to enjoy a taste of nature. Feel free to walk along the rocks to the base of the falls for a refreshing break from summer heat, or follow the aggressive climb along the right side of the falls to the top for spectacular views of the river below. The parking lot is located at the Northern Berkshire YMCA, please be respectful of the YMCA and Brayton Elementary School especially during school day hours. Address Our Address: Northern Berkshire YMCA, 22 Brickyard Ct, North Adams, MA 01247

The modern trail is part of Route 2, which runs east and west across northern Massachusetts. There are various formal and informal designations of the Mohawk Trail’s endpoints, but the most rewarding miles lie between North Adams, in the northern Berkshires, and Greenfield. That’s about 37 miles. From the west, in North Adams, the road winds first up the precipitous slopes of the Hoosac Range. Minutes east of downtown North Adams — about four miles, or where your ears begin to pop — you’ll reach the trail’s famous Hairpin Turn. There’s room to park, and a restaurant, the Golden Eagle, and the sublime view over the northern Berkshires that appears in so many vintage Mohawk Trail postcards.

Jack's Hot Dog stand is a local institution that has been here forever. It's simple, straight forward menu of hot dogs, hamburgers, handmade French fries and onion rings and chili, are cooked to order on a tiny grill at the end of the counter and served hot and fast. A dive of a place.
