Blue Sky places you close to the heart of San Marcos La Laguna, a Mayan village on the shores of Lake Atitlán in Sololá, Guatemala. Known for its lake and volcano views, creative community, yoga studios, and wellness spaces, San Marcos offers a peaceful base for exploring the lake.

Walk about five minutes downhill to the village center for cafés, restaurants, yoga classes, local shops, and fresh produce. Continue toward the waterfront to enjoy the lake or visit Cerro Tzankujil Nature Reserve, a popular spot for walking, swimming, and its cliff-jump platform.

The San Marcos dock makes it easy to explore Lake Atitlán by public lancha. From there, you can plan visits to villages such as Santa Cruz, San Juan, and Panajachel, or arrange a private boat trip.

Guests arriving from Guatemala City airport or Antigua can travel by private transfer or shuttle. Travel time depends on traffic, the route, and whether your journey includes a boat transfer.

Please plan for the hillside location: The walk from Blue Sky to the village is downhill. Returning home is uphill, followed by 58 steep steps up to our gate.

Services and experiences at Blue Sky
Blue Sky is a private home in San Marcos La Laguna, Lake Atitlán. During your stay, you can enjoy the house and gardens on your own, or ask us about optional services and local experiences. Most extras require at least three days’ notice and depend on availability. Message us through Airbnb for details and pricing.

Garden care and guest privacy
Our gardener cares for the outdoor gardens Monday through Friday, generally between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. For short stays, he does not enter the house. For longer stays, some indoor plants may need care. If so, we will contact you in advance to request a convenient time and your permission before he enters. He will not enter the home without arranging it with you.

Optional night guardian
A trusted night guardian is available upon request at no additional cost. If requested, he stays in a separate room beneath the house with its own entrance. His role is to watch the outer gate; he does not enter the guest living spaces.

Exterior security cameras
There are three exterior security cameras located at the main entrance, back garden, and upper hillside boundary. There are no cameras inside the home.

Optional services and experiences
Private chef: We can help arrange meals prepared at the house by local Guatemalan chefs. Menus, availability, and pricing are provided on request.

Wood-fired Mayan temazcal: Our traditional sauna is prepared for your group by advance arrangement. It accommodates up to six guests, and an additional preparation fee applies.

Cleaning during longer stays: Additional cleaning can be arranged in advance for a fee.

Transportation: We can help arrange a private transfer from Guatemala City airport or Antigua. The transportation provider will confirm availability and pricing.

Cacao tour: Meet Kaqchikel women artisans in San Marcos La Laguna and learn how ceremonial cacao is selected, roasted, peeled, and traditionally hand-ground. Ask us about availability, location, and pricing. This is an optional experience separate from your stay at Blue Sky.

Getting to Blue Sky
San Marcos La Laguna has three neighborhoods, or barrios. Barrio 1 and Barrio 2 extend into the hillside, while Barrio 3 meets the shore of Lake Atitlán and is home to the village center, many restaurants, and local businesses.

To reach Blue Sky, start at the basketball court in the center of Barrio 3 and walk uphill toward Barrio 1. You can ask for “Casa Blue Sky” near la escuela vieja, the old schoolhouse. The walk from the village center takes about 5 to 7 minutes.

Beside the old schoolhouse, you’ll find the stairs leading up to the property’s two wood and iron gates. There are 58 steep steps. Continue past the first gate to the second gate on your right, which is the main entrance to the house. The walk into the village is downhill, and the return is uphill. Blue Sky may not be a comfortable choice for guests who have difficulty climbing steep stairs.

Parking: There is no parking at or beside the house. If you are driving, ask us for details about a nearby secure private parking lot, approximately five minutes from Blue Sky.

Village sounds: Blue Sky is close to the center of San Marcos La Laguna, so you may occasionally hear public announcements, barking dogs, church services, fireworks, or local music. During the town’s feria in April, you may hear marimba and other traditional Guatemalan music more often. If you are sensitive to noise while sleeping, we recommend bringing earplugs.
