Welcome to our beautiful house near Saulgond in the Haute Charente Region of South West France. We hope you enjoy your stay! Welcome to Charente Holidays in the heart of the Haute (high) Charente, also known as the Charente-Limousine. This is a very rural area of beautiful green countryside where there are more cows than people (!) - perfect for a total escape from the busy UK lifestyle - with the added bonus of one of the best microclimates in France !

Bellevue House is located around 1 kilometer outside the small village of Saulgond in the Eastern corner of the Charente Department of South West France. A very rural and beautiful tranquil position but also benefitting from the proximity of the local Medieval town of Confolens (10 minutes), the market town of Chabanais (13 minutes) and also the large town of St Junien (15 minutes), all 3 towns situated on the River Vienne which winds its way through the local area, all having several supermarkets, bars and restaurants, the larger of the 3 towns St.Junien benefitting from 2 large hypermarkets as well as plenty of bars and restaurants, as well as a swimming pool centre with indoor and outdoor pools, steam room and sauna.

The large city of Limoges is around 40 minutes drive and the area is also served by Limoges Airport (35 minutes) which has flights with Ryanair from several major local UK airports, and which offers car hire with the office directly outside the airport exit.

Bellevue is a large semi-detached property (the adjoining property is a second home and is currently unoccupied). The south facing house benefits from an elevated position with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding meadows and woodland. The property was run as a B&B by the previous owners. Having purchased the house in autumn 2020 we have spent the winter period totally renovating the building, including installation of a totally new fitted kitchen as well as refurnishing the entire property.

On the ground floor, a covered entrance porch gives access to a large hallway with access off to the right to the dining room with 6 places, this room is accompanied by the large downstairs shower room which has twin sinks and a spacious shower cubicle, as well as a wc.

Off the hallway to the left you will find a very large kitchen/diner which has its own table and chairs, and is fully equipped with all kitchen equipment and utensils. The kitchen has a large window which makes the room very light, and which gives beautiful views over the rural surroundings. An electric roller blind can be used if desired, in order to keep the room cool during the daytime.

The kitchen leads directly to a similar sized living room with twin leather sofas, coffee table, Sky TV and DVD player, & bookcase with a good selection of books, the lounge has large sliding patio doors that open onto a large raised terrace with extending sun canopies, seating area and outside dining area with gas BBQ, table & four chairs. The doors also make the lounge very light but also benefit from electric roller blinds that cab be lowered to keep the room cool.

The terrace is south facing, receives full sunshine all day long, and provides the lovely views associated with this property. These views over the beautiful and unspoilt farmland and woodland are available whilst in the kitchen, living room, and both double bedrooms.

A wide staircase gives access to the first floor where you will find 2 large double bedrooms, and a twin bedded room. All bedrooms have wardrobes, chest of drawers, bedside tables and lamps, blackout curtains and a chair.

On the first floor is also the second bathroom, also with twin sinks and a bath. A separate WC completes the accommodation here.

The private garden, which is situated at the front of the house has a heated plunge pool (open June to September) and an area with sunbeds and table and chairs. There is ample room for family games on a flat grassed area. The pool is private.

There is plenty of parking at the property, including covered parking spaces in the large barn which is adjacent to the house.

Covid-19 local situation.

The Charente is thankfully, one of the least affected areas in France. This has been the case since the start of the pandemic, and continues to the present day. We are very fortunate to live in this sparsely populated area of SW France that has been largely unaffected by coronavirus. At the time of writing (September 15th 2021) the incidence rate in Charente is less than 40 in 100,000, the general health situation is improving rapidly day by day, the national R rate is 0.8 and France reopened all facilities on June 9th. Masks are compulsory in all interior spaces including shops.
