I offer flexible guest stays in my home by the stunning River Alde estuary Aldeburgh. I live there with my dog. The house is modern eco friendly & sits in tranquil AONB land about a 15/20 min from the sea front & high st on foot. Many good walks & a prime location for the skies, views, nature & tranquility that make the Suffolk coast special.

The guest area comprises 2 bedrooms & a private bathroom. The 2nd room can be configured into a living space when not needed as bedroom.

The house is one of nine eco sensitive houses built between 2016-18 and is set back from the main road in a quiet gated site in Aldeburgh, just under a mile from the sea front. There are beautiful long views across the marshes and out to sea from the viewing deck where breakfast is served and of the Estuary looking across our 6.5 acre field.

The house is on the former Reades Brickworks site and the whole site is free to explore. With direct access to the river with its sandy beach the remains of the Brick Dock Jetty, we are close to or connected to all the major local footpaths. If guests want to join me on a dog walk I can show you round the site. Birders will be happy to see the wide varieties of bird life living in the estuary .

I live in the house too with my dog. We all come in and out using the same door. It is an upside down house with all bedrooms downstairs. Your accommodation comprises one side of the bedroom floor with the Air and Earth rooms, and a large family bathroom which you have exclusive use of. I sleep at the other end of the house.

Air is a large, bright room with king-sized bed and lots of storage space for your belongings including plenty of hanging space for clothes. The Earth room is totally underground but lit by three large skylights. This room's use is flexible and it can be used as a single bedroom if guests want separate rooms or otherwise can be used as a lounge, a dining room, office, TV room, meditation space etc etc this is bundled in with sole use of the family bathroom. The section of the hallway linking the rooms is also solely for guest use and you can pull a curtain and dog guard for increased privacy from the rest of the house. There is fast WiFi through the house and the guest rooms contain Netflix enabled smart TVs. Whilst guests do not have their own kitchen there is an area where they have access to a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, water fountain and tea and coffee which is provided for use at any time.

Keeping the space clean and making sure that your safety is not compromised during your stay is my priority and I follow all Airbnb cleaning protocols.

My guests seem to enjoy breakfast. I am very flexible with arrangements and the menu so anything from scrambled egg on toast at 730 or a full English at 830 or even Vegan pancakes at 930, can be accommodated. Breakfasts can be served outside when weather permits and you can enjoy watching the sun come up and the view over the marshes and out to sea.

Aldeburgh, Ufalme wa Muungano

Aldeburgh was voted 4th best seaside town in the UK out of over 100 others nationally in a 2020 survey by Which magazine. We are in the middle of Suffolk's heritage coast, in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and in a corner bordered on two sides by the sea and the River Alde midway between Ipswich to the south and Lowestoft to the north. The house is at the quieter top end of the town. Aldeburgh is not a large town though so the sea front and high street's amenities are 20 mins walk from the house or a very short drive. We have direct access to the river at about 200m from the house and from there its a short walk along the river wall to pick up the footpath that takes you along the river and to the town centre in about 40 mins.

If you are new to Aldeburgh, it has a long sea front with a shingle beach on which you can see the lifeboat and many fisherman's huts where you can buy fresh caught fish daily. We have sculpture on the beach with The Scallop, Maggie Hamblin's stunning sculpture which is dedicated to Benjamin Britten the composer, resident and founder of the Aldeburgh festival, which sees people from all over the world come to the area. The festival runs throughout June mainly at the Snape Maltings, the well renowned concert hall and complex, which also runs the Snape Prom through August. Music is a big part of Aldeburgh's strong artistic heritage and together with theatre, art galleries and cinema in the town plus a high street which is quaint and devoid of chain shops, this town is a very grown up way of enjoying the seaside. There are many good places to eat in Aldeburgh. From pub food or the renowned Aldeburgh fish and chips to the restaurants offering many different cuisines from Thai to Indian. You will probably need to book ahead most restaurants during busy months and please ask me for ideas and I'll happily try to secure a table for you.

Our site is just under a mile from the high street and sea front and is walkable in 15 minutes. A more leisurely walk is along the walls of the river which wind around the marshes, arriving at the yacht club and the other end of the high street and takes around 45 minutes. There are various other footpaths for walkers and we are very close to the Suffolk coast path and the Sailors path.

Nearby towns and villages worthy of note are Thorpeness, Snape, Orford, Framlingham, Woodbridge and there are many interesting ancient buildings and places to explore, The Red House (Benjamin Britten's Aldeburgh residence) Snape Maltings, Leiston Abbey, Sutton Hoo, Orford castle, the Mear and picture postcard village of Thorpeness and Aldeburgh's Moot Hall which dates back to the 1600's and is the home to the town council and the Aldeburgh museum.

Birdlife is abundant and unprecedented. As well as the nearby RSPB reserves at Snape, Minsmere, Havergate Island and North Warren, you will see many wading birds feeding and nesting in and around the marshes and the estuary which is just 200m from the house.

I often host walkers and guests stopping off on cycling tours. The local area is rich with nature and has great cycling and walking routes. Whilst I can't lock up cycles inside, there are many secure spots for cycles to be locked outside and sheltered from the worst of the elements. Plenty of other wildlife is found on the site; badgers, foxes, stoats, hares, deer and millions of rabbits. E-cycle hire is possible locally.

Aldeburgh is a popular destination for tourists who appreciate its unique qualities. It's the seaside for grown ups with no pier, casinos, rollercoasters etc. I decided to settle here from London in 2018 after forming a bond with the town from many childhood holidays with my family. The town inspires great love in the people that live and visit here. I'm very lucky to be in what I consider to be one of the best locations in Aldeburgh and I'm delighted to be able to share this amazing spot with my guests.

I've been hosting guests in my home since September 2018. It has been immense fun and I enjoy every visit, I like that people are all so different but one thing that they mostly all have in common is that my guests are nice people and I'm lucky that I have had great reviews and it's been a pleasure helping my guests create great memories of their time in Aldeburgh. The Covid 19 pandemic made me rethink how I delivered such services to my guests. Compliance with all the cleaning protocols is vital and done for your safety. This means I don't have as much flexibility to provide early check ins as I did and I ask guests to help me by doing a few extra tasks on check out such as thing up their own bin bags and bringing towels and linen outside the rooms on departure. But the impact on guests is that you are staying in a bit of my house that remains solely for your use. The main area has two bedrooms and a bathroom all leading off a part of the hallway noone else will use and which you can curtain off for privacy. I have a further guest room with an ensuite which in time I will relist once we are confident about mixing households. All the guest rooms are modern, comfortable and the house is in a quiet pictureseque area. Why should you come ? I live in a beautiful area. You will encounter few people at close quarters. Even if the town is busy. The house is comfortable, modern, well appointed and clean . You will be able to maintain the distance we all need to be keeping. We have tremendous walks from here both into and away from the town . I'm flexible relaxed and keen for you to be happy. I have a viewing deck with great views which you are welcome to sit and admire any time during your stay . John Feb2021

Wakati wa ukaaji wako

I became an Airbnb host as I enjoy meeting new people and also want to make sure that you get what you want from your break. I'm very happy to chat and get to know my guests but am happy to leave you to your own devices if you just want quiet time. I follow your lead.

My dog is always willing to be friendly and is always up for a game or a cuddle. He came be a bit exuberant when meeting guests for the first time but this calms quickly. He's happy to welcome other dogs into the house, though I find it best if on arrival we all go for a walk to get them acquainted before coming in the house.
