***We want to assure you we are taking the COVID19 pandemic very seriously. We are taking extra cleaning and disinfecting measures as well as waiting at least 24 hours in between guests. Please be flexible if we have to alter your reservation to meet new guidelines. We ask if you are feeling sick or have a fever to cancel or rebook your reservation to a later date (at least 2 weeks) DO NOT book if you have been exposed to someone with the coronavirus (wait 2 weeks from exposure). We want to protect you as well as our family. We will be participating in social distancing so there is an easy key-pad check-in and we will try to resolve any issues over the phone first.

This cabin was built in 1930. It's a part of the scenic Sphinx Park just a mile or so away from Pine, CO. Enjoy amazing rock formations and access to many popular outdoor destinations. If relaxation is more your style then take a stroll down the road or enjoy the babbling sounds of the Elk Creek!

Its literally a minute walk to the historic Bucksnort Saloon which is on the Elk Creek. You may hear some roaring of motorcycles and live music playing during weekends. It’s a popular spot especially on the weekends and in the summer. We offer some privacy as we aren't directly next to the saloon. Take a step back in time and visit this old-western saloon and enjoy a burger and a beer. (Call ahead to see if open as hours fluctuate especially in winter).

The living room has a propane fireplace controlled by a thermostat (fireplace off during summer and wood fireplace in kitchen is not in use at all).

Full kitchen with a large toaster oven that fits a 12” pizza and cooks just about anything, new stove top and oven (smaller than your standard oven), microwave, small coffee maker and all the basics. Coffee and creamer provided. Stop for groceries on your way in (grocery stores on highway 285) because there’s not a store close by the cabin.

One cozy bedroom (cabin is for two people only) with lots of windows and a queen size bed with memory foam topper and updated bed-frame/mattress. This bedroom boasts a fireplace-like electric heater that puts out a lot of heat and provides lots of ambiance.

Plenty of blankets and an extra electric radiator to keep you cold natured folks warm in the winter months. Bring your socks and slippers as the old wood floors can get cold.

A library with many books, DVD's and some games.

A bluetooth sound bar to cast your favorite tunes.

Although there is no air conditioning the cabin doesn’t get too hot in the summer (If doors and windows are kept closed during the hot part of the day). There’s a fan in bedroom to keep you extra comfortable.

You will get to enjoy a spacious yard (no fence) that has a big table with several chairs and a charcoal grill (if no fire-ban).

Sit and have a cup of coffee on the smaller front deck while enjoying the views of the Bucksnort Saloon, rock formations and all the wildlife that may stroll by.

Yes, you will see a big beautiful bathtub in the pictures, but unfortunately our water supply and drainage does not support the use of it = sorry strictly no baths, great hot showers only!

We have a limit of two dogs (no cats). Well-behaved, house-trained dogs only who do not mark inside and aren’t destructive in anyway. Cannot be aggressive as there are other animals and wildlife that roam around. Please clean up after your pets outside. There is a trash can outside to dispose of dog waste. We also ask that you keep pets off of couches and bed for other guests that may be sensitive to animals. Two nice, comfy dog beds and dog bowls are provided for your fur-kids.

We have WiFi and it can be pretty slow at times but it’s good enough for decent Netflix and general surfing. We do not have cable TV but have Netflix and plenty of DVDs.

There is a landline since phone service is limited in case you need to reach us or make any calls.

Easy keypad check-in. Code will be provided to you the night before or day of check-in.

The roads are county maintained all but one mile to the cabin. There are residents that maintain the last mile. We feel pretty confident that if you book during the winter, you shouldn't have a problem getting to the cabin. 2-wheel drive will work if you have designated snow tires. There may be times during a snow storm where 4wd may be necessary. ***If you are from out of town and renting a car it would be wise to rent something AWD or better in the winter.*** Inquire with hosts if you have concerns. Colorado has recently adopted new winter traction laws for highways as well. 2wd/AWD cars must have snow tires or mud/snow tires with chains. 4wd cars must have mud/snow tires. Check if you rent a car that you have appropriate tires.

NOTES AND DISCLOSURES - PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING!
***We have limited resources when it comes to water supply and drainage. You must be able to CONSERVE WATER or this isn’t the cabin for you. Please read more below.

***The cabin is old and rustic. It is almost 100 years old so it isn’t perfect. It has had many updates but we try to keep the old cabin character to fit the area. **If you are not wanting a rustic cabin adventure in the mountains this might not be the place for you.**

***We are off the grid as far as water and plumbing goes as are many of the other cabins in the area. Our water is spring fed or trucked in and operates off of an electric water pump. But you shouldn't notice a difference from any other house. However, it has been tested and is NOT recommended to use for drinking or cooking, showers only. Please use the jugged water provided in the kitchen for drinking and cooking.

***NO BATHS either, We’ve learned the hard way, a bath WILL cause flooding/backup in the bathroom as well as basement and may deplete your water supply.

***Due to our plumbing it is very important for you to be able to CONSERVE running water/anything that goes down the drain (except for the toilet). Our water is brought in at times (expensive) and anything down the drain has to be hauled out. We have limited storage for used water/anything down the drains. Using excessive amounts of water (except for the toilet) can cause tanks to fill up rapidly and plumbing to back up and may cause you to deplete your water supply. Having the tanks emptied is very expensive ($400 each time) and can take a few days notice as well. We DO appreciate plenty of water down the toilet. The tanks are checked frequently.

* The TOILET is a clean RV toilet. This mean it works with gravity so it doesn’t use water. We just ask that you add plenty of water after a flush to prevent clogs. Just giving full disclosure.

* As with many small mountain towns you will likely not have cellular service. You may have limited service depending on your carrier however, you should get service in the town of Pine one mile away. **Please make sure you save directions and all other pertinent information before coming to cabin just in case.**

* The cabin is about 100 yrs. old and does have low ceilings in the far end of the kitchen and bedroom. If you're over 6'3 you might feel like a mighty giant in those nooks of the cabin.

*wood fireplace in kitchen is NOT in use.

A NOTE FROM US :-)

We look forward to sharing our cabin with you.
This cabin is so much fun because of the fact that it is off the grid and so rustic, but this also means that on the very rare occasion we have to deal with small issues such as pumping or filling of water tanks, frozen pipes in the winter, or deep snow. It just adds to the adventure! We will try to keep things going flawlessly. In the event you feel there is a problem or have any issues please let us know as soon as possible. We want every guest to feel at home! If you have any recommendations or changes we should make please contact us personally. We welcome the feedback and are in a constant process of making the place perfect. As you can imagine, a 100 year-old cabin needs a lot of TLC.
This place is full of character so enjoy!
Cheers! :-)

Mambo mengine ya kukumbuka
We have an abundance of wildlife in the area (I can’t promise they’ll make an appearance). Mostly deer, bears, red and black foxes and abert (black) squirrels. Please do not feed them or leave food outside!
If you’re lucky enough you may see a moose, bear or mountain lion (they have a heavy presence in the area even if you don’t see one). Please do not approach these animals as they can be very dangerous. Go back indoors and wait for them to pass. Be careful walking at night and do not leave pets unattended outdoors.

If you are renting a car in the winter it would be wise to rent a car with AWD or better. Read more in listing description.
