Original old Part of a Cottage (built 1740) with beams and exposed stone, in central village on the main road. Set in the heart of a beautiful quaint stone built UNESCO village, full of shops, pubs, restaurants and the famous Mill and Canal. No hill to climb as I’m right in the centre.

Leave your car. Lots of pubs. Restaurants. Cafes. Shops. Galleries. Antique shops. Walks. Parks, Right close to the snug. Pleasant walk also into Matlock Bath. Free parking in village right across the road.

All dog friendly. Nice drives to Chatsworth . Belper, Haddon Hall. Ashbourne. Bakewell. Walk to the amazing Matlock Bath or stay walking in the beautiful Cromford UNESCO stone village.

The snug:
A very arty, historic, unique little space. Own entrance and full private use of your lounge/bed settee, kitchen/diner and shower/wet room/bathroom. All on ground floor. Easy access. Central heating with 3 radiators regularly coming on in Autumn/winter. Cool in summer. Entrance to street is in the heart of the village.

For yourself is the Lounge with bed settee, Alexa tv with Netflix (use guest account), and Gaia tv, Amazon prime and iPlayer, full working kitchen with sink, blender, new induction hob and oven with rustic table and chairs and a marble wet room/ sky fall led shower with toilet and sink. All stylish.

There is a padded mattress topper to put under the sheet so it’s extra comfortable. Spare extra one in the basket.

I live in the other side of the cottage myself but there will be little noise as the cottage has thick stone walls and I sleep on the 3rd floor. I have a little dog who may on occasion bark if someone comes to the door, but I keep that to a minimum, and have sound proofed the adjoining locked door.

You can pull up on the pavement outside to drop of luggage. Free parking is across the road also and throughout the village. The drive is for owners use only, however if no one visiting I will let you know.

I’ve had really good feedback with the snug but please note it is on the main road (but double glazing is good and your right in the hub of it all), the roads tend to quiet down in the evening and it’s quieter than Matlock Bath. Autumn/ winter much quieter. Bakewell. Buxton. Ashbourne - all have busy roads. A few customers think the Peak District will be quiet in all areas but main villages do have traffic.

Jenny Aitken is a fantastic local artist if your wanting to learn to paint. She is based near to Belper. Please google her for details.

Please say if bringing a dog and put it into the booking. Plus type of dog. Please could you bring your own blanket/bed for dog to sit on. I can supply a bed and blanket at an extra price if needed. Not on furniture please. Bowls are in the cupboard.

Good bus routes and a train station near by. I leave guests to relax and enjoy their holidays but I am on the phone if you are struggling with anything.

From the front door of the snug is a small 20ft x 4ft gated and walled closed area by the main road. This is the outside space , ideal for dogs popping out. Table abd 2 chairs there also to use.

If you want to eat please book. Boat is pub food. Greyhound bit posher. Parkeys french restaurant higher end but only for lunch and breakfasts. Also a tapas bar. All pubs take dogs.

You can enjoy a day out visiting Derbyshire's jewel, Chatsworth House or Haddon Hall (Tudor Manor House)
The high peak trail is on your door step. Walk to Matlock bath (15mins) for the Heights of Abraham. Stay on Cromford for the Historic Mills and Canal experience, with a pumping station. A stunning little village.

Cromford UNESCO World Heritage Area. Gastro pubs. Traditional country pubs. Restaurants. Chocolatier. Cheese shop. Deli butchers. All in walking distance ( less than a minutes walk)

Cromford beautiful UNESCO village with canal and Historical mill and buildings. Dating back to the 1700’s all stone built. It’s Beautiful.

Good public transport right outside, train station near by.

Also in the immediate vicinity are a Convenience store. Paper shop. Postoffice. Chip shop. Antique shop. Cafes at the canal. The boat Pub has live bands every Friday.
Right on the edge of the Peak District National Park.

Matlock Bath 15 minute walk. ( Cromford is quieter and in my opinion has nicer pubs and restaurants).

20 minute drive to Chatsworth. Haddon hall.

The greyhound is lovely for gin and has pizza oven and good menu for meals.
There is a french restaurant which is fantastic for breakfast lunch or dinner. A Tapas Restaurant. Traditional restaurant and the lovely Scarthin book vegetarian cafe.
Also a little white hut at the bottom of the road doing great value breakfasts.

I am an Art teacher at a senior school. I love anything creative, including cooking and have built a pizza oven in my garden. I love historical buildings and areas.

I have travelled extensively since a small child. I love exploring the world seeing different cultures, sampling the food and taking photos.
I would always rather a traditional experience rather than one catering for tourists. I am an early to bed person who would rather spend a day sightseeing and go for a nice meal than sampling the night life.
I adore animals and have 2 dogs at home. Therefore, I love to see animals on holiday and often feed stray cats and dogs. I am a considerate person and I positive and polite.
My late father said that you view your life through your holidays, and I believe he was right, therefore I love being away.

I do not use the bedroom above the snug when it’s let, I sleep on the top floor. I have two little dogs which I keep quiet but you may hear the odd bark, however I have sound proofed the connecting door downstairs, so it will be minimal.
