We offer a home from home experience, a perfect getaway, clean, spacious rooms, comfortable beds in a friendly environment.

We let out UP To two attic rooms per group ( shared entrance, own key) in our detached, split- level villa, overlooking a lively street with characteristic Dutch houses and greenhouses (garden centre). There are many interesting monumental buildings in the immediate area.
The property is surrounded by a small woodland area / gardens/terraces with some fruit trees and grapevines. This combined with the beach-themed decor will surely set the scene, such a relaxed vibe will send you straight into holiday mood.
With the beach, dunes and flower fields (seasonal) nearby, an interesting array of attractions/museums close at hand and city trips all within easy reach you really are spoilt for choice.
Or just breathe in the history, take a walk through old Katwijk and chill out in the garden.

We are directly next to a garden centre (Tuincentrum de Uiver) and Jewish cemetery/monumental wall, Rijnstraat 151.
There are many other monumental buildings in The Rijnstraat, Kerklaan, Kerkstraat plus the rich history of De Roskam ( 550m) and windmill De Geregtigheid (950m).

Supermarket Coop (500m), Wibra, snackbar De Rêlus, bakery van Maanen, hairdressers, gift shop, Nico's cycle rental (we also have our own cycles), fish (and chip) shop van der Marel at Bosplein (650m), restaurant Proeflokaal De Buuren, churches.

Albert Heijn, the top Dutch supermarket is 1 km (accessible by cycle path/walking) by car it is 5 minutes.
The Friday market and Aquamar swimming pool can be found at 900m.
Main shopping street is a 25min walk.

First impressions of Katwijk and THINGS to DO in the AREA:

KATWIJK is a traditional family seaside resort. It is still largely unspoilt and retains an air of childhood nostalgia. It has a very much laid back feel, quaint and charming rather than pulsing.
Katwijk is largely a Christian community, a handful of restaurants and all shops are closed on Sundays. There is almost always ample parking in the convenient, award winning underground car park on the boulevard. The parking tariff is very reasonable ( garages €1,80/ street €3,00 per hour)
Parking outside our house is always free.
For the sun seekers there is a 4,5km long, sandy stretch of beach and impressive dunes. The beach is clean and dotted with plenty of comfortable pavilions serving coffee, beer, ice-cream, snacks or fine dining.
There is nothing so romantic as watching a beautiful sunset.
Katwijk offers shops, water sports, restaurants and more. Stop off at the fish kiosk or join the queue (it's that good) for probably the best ice-cream ever at Krijn Verdoes, in the Voorstraat.
The old lighthouse opens up to the public in July and August. Great views for a bargain price of 1euro!
Visit the picturesque White Church and stroll through the adjoining courtyard of traditional old fisherman's houses, it's like stepping back in time! Soak up the history and discover just how life used to be in the Katwijks museum.
Take a dive in the Aquamar swimming pool, 900m from our house.
Buy Dutch cheese/ stroopwafels at the Friday market, next to the Aquamar.
If you are here on Tuesday, don't forget the popular tourist market in the Princesstraat (only during the summer months)
Katwijk is ideal for walking or cycling trips. Take a relaxed stroll along the dune path directly above the parking garage, or along the boulevard. Or walk on the beach to Noordwijk.
Cycle through the North dunes to Noordwijk ( 20min), or South dunes to Scheveningen (1 hour) or stop off at Wassenaar. Who said Holland was flat ;-) ?
Did I mention we rent out bicycles and offer boat trips? See below for details or ask.
Nightlife include a few bars, pavilions, cafe's or local events involving live music. You could also check out the agenda of the local music scene (De Schuit /Scum)

Many windmills open their doors to welcome visitors. It's educational, fun and free! De Valk Museum in Leiden is closed on Sunday.

We have two annual FLOWER PARADES;
Bloemencorso Bollenstreek ( Noordwijk-Lisse-Hillegom- Haarlem area) in April.
This is a very impressive flower parade, it is a good idea to combine this with a day at the Keukenhof gardens.
Rijnsburg Bloemencorso in August.
Our house is on the route so you can have FRONT ROW SEATS!

Oranje Rock. An outdoor rock festival in Katwijk.
( pre booked tickets only) This is an end of summer festival held in the last week of August. Other activities include fancy fair, boat parade, children's free market.

Open Monumentendag (annual national open monument day) In September.
A perfect day to visit a handful of monumental buildings.

There is a possibility to take a half or/daytrip with our boat 'Perfect Getaway'/ skipper around the Leiden canals or Kagerplassen.
Or what about taking a tour in one of our oldtimer cars... it's an unique way to experience the flower fields.

CITIES TO VISIT:
If you would like to visit a beautiful historical City other than Leiden, consider Haarlem, Den Haag, Delft or Amsterdam, all within easy reach by car or train.

A little further afield, the famous cheese market is held in Alkmaar on Fridays 73km

Rotterdam is quite a modern city. Highly recommended is the Markthal, an indoor food market, become disorientated in the cube houses (very close to the Markthal) 3euro entry fee and then stop to recover with a coffee at the old haven.
Take the harbour tour ( Spido), it's the largest harbour in Europe and very informative. Buy tickets online with discount.
Just south of Rotterdam, you will find the famous Kinderdijk windmills 70km

Also very popular is De Zaanse Schans (North Holland) 61km
And the typical Dutch villages Volendam and Marken.

Even further afield is the famous tourist attraction Giethoorn

When I travel I want to live (& eat) like a local! 'All inclusive resorts' are not really for me! I do like cleanliness, fresh towels/bed linen though :-) and appreciate quirky accommodations. Oh and breakfast :-) is very important.

Katwijk is a charming place in South Holland, The Netherlands, minutes from the bulb fields, between Amsterdam and The Hague. It is a traditional family seaside resort. It is largely unspoilt and retains an air of childhood nostalgia.
You may well fall in love with Katwijk (or a local ;-) since my extended time in Katwijk is the result of a holiday romance!

I am a foodie, I love tasting and cooking food from all around the world. I love street food as much as fine dining. I am not really a baker but I regularly bake my own (sourdough) bread, muffins, brownies, apple pie. I also make fresh milk kefir.
I am always ready to try/cook new things. I am not a health freak but try to eat /cook healthy and responsibly. My favourites include Thai, Indian, Italian and Greek. From my extended holidays I have a whole repertoire of dishes and offer Thai workshops/ cooking demonstrations.
My favorite destination is the Greek island of Crete and all parts of Thailand.
I would love to visit the Greek island of Santorini in the future.
