Casa Misterio is a two-room guesthouse located in an authentic Centro Histórico barrio still untouched by the rising tourism in Merida, but with all the famous sights just a short walk away. Our home is a rebuilt colonial, retaining its traditional bones while reflecting the California we left behind, providing respite from the bustling city outside. We love sharing our home with guests. We offer cooking classes and culinary tours, airport transfer and laundry service too! Ask for details!

Sehemu
We designed, built and furnished our house all on our own, without the help of an architect. The result is a space that is unique and full of life. We are very proud of it. We named our house Casa Misterio because when you open the front doors, what was invisible from the street unfolds as you walk through the house, surprising you at every turn.

If our casita is booked, check out our second beautiful room for rent. Take a look at our balcony room at http://airbnb.com/h/casamisteriobalcony

Here is what some of our guests have said about Casa Misterio:

"We could not rate Erin and Manny's Airbnb offering any higher. We absolutely loved it!" --Nik

"I could not imagine a better place to stay in Merida." -Lindsey

"The place was exceptional." --David

"The best part of my stay was meeting Erin and Manny. I couldn't have felt more welcome." --Neil

"The price of the accommodation was extremely reasonable, even more so when you get a wonderful breakfast to start your day exploring." --Jim

Ufikiaji wa mgeni
The casita is detached from the rest of the house, accessible though the main entrance. It has a full size bed, hammock, and seating areas inside and outside, wifi, air conditioning, and en suite bath with on-demand hot water as well as an outdoor shower.

In the main house guests may enjoy anytime:
big screen tv with local channels and Netflix, anytime kitchen access, pool, garden, sitting and dining rooms and terrace.

We want our guests to feel completely at home during their stay, as if visiting friends. Come and go as you please and make yourself comfortable in your room and in the common areas.

Merida, Yucatan, Meksiko

We love our neighborhood! We live in the San Sebastián barrio within Merida's Centro Historico. It is a 15 minute walk to the Plaza Grande or the charming Parque de Santiago, where one can see all the sights Merida is famous for. What we like most about our neighborhood, though, is that while it is very close to the tourism center, one sees almost no tourists in San Sebastián. Strolling through the park, having a beer and botanas at the local "bar familiar," grabbing a freshly grilled "pollo asado" for lunch, or catching a colectivo bus to the central market, our guests truly get a sense of the Merida the locals see.

We are also lucky to be 2 blocks from the ADO bus station, a 15 minute drive to the airport and on multiple local bus routes. Taxis also pass often due to the proximity of the bus station. A large supermarket is an easy walk and you can even try a bicycle taxi instead of carrying your groceries home. Check out what our guests have said about our neighborhood:

"It was great to walk around and get a sense of a Merida neighborhood." --San

"The location is fantastic. We walked everywhere, but if the heat is too much for you, there are plenty of colectivos and very cheap cabs that you can grab from the front door." --Nik

"The family home is perfectly located near the main plaza. A real feel of Merida life." --Brian

"It's a quick taxi ride or walk to the city center and there's great eating right in the neighborhood." --Bridget

I am a professional chef trained in holistic and vegetarian cooking, currently on hiatus from restaurant life, living with my husband and our son and daughter in Merida. We worked very hard restoring a colonial home in Merida's Centro Historico and we now happily call it home. I keep myself busy making art with which to decorate our home, being a mom, cooking, and having adventures around town trying to better my Spanish. I did a lot of traveling in college and stayed in hostels in Edinburgh, Athens, Amsterdam, Madrid, Dublin, Granada, and Munich, to name the most memorable. I have also stayed in the homes and on the lawns of very nice stangers, in my tent in bicycle campgrounds, in small hotels, and once in an Irish island hostel where I was the only guest. Every place I stayed was unique, some more enjoyable than others, and each a total adventure and special part of my travels. I am very happy to have the opportunity with Airbnb to give other travelers a comfortable, unique place to stay while traveling through Merida. Some other things I enjoy are bluegrass music, ice cream, reading, riding my bicycle, cooking with local ingredients, and zombie movies. My husband, Manny, is a great futbol player, a professional cook as well, exceedingly charming, and a very engaging tour guide. He really enjoys cheesy sitcoms, the History channel and Animal Planet. He hasn't done as much traveling as I have, but he has a fantastic sense of adventure. He designed and oversaw the rebuilding of our house in Merida, and he is proud to open it up to Airbnb guests.

Wakati wa ukaaji wako
We are a Merida native and a California girl, both trained chefs, who live full time at Casa Misterio with our two cute kids. Erin serves a healthy and filling breakfast each morning, along with great coffee and fresh juice. We both really enjoy getting to know guests over a meal, hearing about their travels, and helping them plan their time in Merida. Manny is a wealth of insider info and tips on where to go and what to avoid. Erin brings her perspective as a very happy foreigner discovering what this amazing place has to offer. Our kids love to play and chat when guests pass through the shared spaces. Sharing our home and what we like best about our city is what being a part of Airbnb means to us.

We may have left the professional kitchen life behind when we moved to Merida, but our love for authentic food culture (and good eating) is a huge part of our life here. We offer two unique urban food tours, as well as cooking classes, right from (or in) our home. Get more specifics about our offerings in the "Other Things to Note" section below.

"Definitely sign up for one of the day trips on offer - you'll get an interesting (and likely, yummy) day out of the city." --Caitlin

"Erin's recommendations for a local loncheria and another restaurant were perfect, we are now addicted to panuchos and salbutes." -- Rosa

"Erin and Manny really take an interest in improving your trip with their attentions and tips." --Luis

"Erin and Manny are gracious and generous hosts. They make you feel cared for while still giving your the space to enjoy being a guest." -- Bridget
