This enchantingly rustic and historic Cabin was once a bunkhouse. Legend has it that "Billy The Kid" slept here. (After all, his stepdad William Antrim owned the house next door.) Large windows frame a stunning view of the Gila National Forest's Mogollon Mountains. After much work and care, the Cabin is a medley of visual delights; every detail (indoors and outdoors) is the
art and passion of your host.

The spacious studio floor plan houses an ornate four-poster queen bed, sink, toilet (with a privacy screen), free-standing closet, laptop-friendly expandable table, chairs, an eclectic library (including many regional books), reading lights, outlets, USB ports, ceiling fan, seasonal air conditioner and heater.

In addition, extra comforters, electric blanket, bath products for the outdoor and indoor showers, teas, coffee with coffee maker are included.

SHOWER DETAIL:
During the warm months (May to mid-October), the outdoor shower (next to the hot tub and Cabin ) is private and lovely. The Cabins location is behind my home, which allows for easy access to the indoor shower (which is available from mid-October to May).
By Spring, an addition on the Cabin will be completed. It will have a shower and the toilet will be enclosed.

ANIMALS:
In consideration of those with allergies, my cats and dogs never go into the Cabin.

OTHER INFORMATION:
No poisons/pesticides are used on the property, but in the Cabin, I use the (airbnb) recommended cleaning products and cleaning procedures.
My property borders the Gila National Forest.

Ufikiaji wa mgeni
PROPERTY:
Guests have access to the many places to sit and enjoy watching the birds, deer and resident animal family. Swing on the bench near the Koi ponds and admire the lilies and lotus blossoms while listening to the waterfall. Enjoy the shade of the porch, the flower and vegetable gardens, walk the Autumnal Labyrinth, or take a snooze in the hammock in the orchard.

GALLERY & GIFT SHOP:
Explore the art galleries and gift shops, beginning with the converted greenhouse that displays ‘yard art’, water features and bird houses. Three generations of the Behr family artwork and many regional artists are displayed in Galleries #1 & 2. The walls are adorned with a unique collection of art, crafts, jewelry, home wares, and other unique gifts from near and far.

OUTDOORS:
Some of the best upper and lower canyon and river hiking in the world is just up the road.

Mambo mengine ya kukumbuka
PROPERTY DETAIL:
My property is a small farm/orchard at the end of a tree-lined road and next to Whitewater Creek. It can accommodate 7 adults. (There are also 2 glamping structures: The Lotus (16' yurt) and the Pond Hut (10' square) with a cabana.)

This is an animal lover's paradise with at least a dozen white tail deer wandering around along with.the chickens, an ancient horse named Bambi and 2 mini donkeys. The cats will roll onto their back for a scratch and Zsa Zsa the dog, is always ready and willing to demonstrate her tree climbing skills and little Ava will steal your heart. Cows and horses are generally in the field next to the Cabin.

GATE:
The front gate is kept closed for privacy and to keep my animals safe.

*There is one restaurant Alma and one in Mogollon (seasonal: May - October) that provide wonderful meals.
* There are restaurants and a Grocery Store in Reserve (37 miles North).
* One Restaurant in Cliff (30 miles South)
* No restaurants are open for dinner (in Glenwood) as of September 7 2020. The convenience stores close at 7pm and 8 pm.
*The Glenwood Tavern is open intermittently. When they are open, they have a limited inventory of beer, wine and hard liquor.

Glenwood, New Mexico, Marekani

LOCATION:
We are surrounded by New Mexico's Gila National Forest, and very close to the Aldo Leopold Wilderness area which was the first to be established in the United States.

Glenwood boasts hot springs, labyrinths, canyons, mountains, galleries and ghost towns. This is the perfect place for relaxing, sightseeing, fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, birding and gazing at the starry night sky.

The San Francisco River runs through our valley from the north; Whitewater and Mineral Creeks cascade from the east; the spectacular Mogollon Mountain Range outlines the sky.

The stunning and diverse landscape of the surrounding area covers four of the six life zones and we enjoy 4 gentle seasons. This is a bird watchers paradise; from bald and golden eagles to resident great blue herons and black hawks, migrating cranes and ducks to six different species of hummingbirds.

Our piece of heaven is home to the Cosmic Campground: which has the distinction of being named the first Dark Sky Sanctuary in the World:

This area is rich in history from the pre-historic Mimbreno Culture; famous Apache Chiefs: Mangas Colorado, Victorio, and Geronimo; Mining camps, ghost towns; the "Wild Bunch", Butch Cassidy, Billy the Kid, William Antrim; the first motorized "Air Ship" to fly in New Mexico and conservationist Aldo Leopold.

Glenwood is known for the Catwalk Recreation Area, which is 4 miles up the canyon from the Cozy Cabin.

THE CATWALK:
Whitewater Canyon, site of the famous Catwalk, was a central point in the mining history of this area. The town called both Graham and Whitewater grew up around a mill built by John T. Graham in 1893. All that remains to mark the spot is part of the mill walls still clinging to the west side of the canyon near the entrance to The Catwalk. The mines above the canyon were worked from their discovery in 1889 until 1942 (Billy the Kid's stepfather, William Antrim, was a blacksmith at Graham).

The Helen Mining Company was first to develop 13 claims about 4 miles upstream from the mill which could not be built closer to the mines because of the rough, narrow canyon. A 3 mile long, 4" metal pipeline provided a continuous water supply to the town and its electric generator. Although a larger 18" pipeline was built in 1897 to run a big, new generator, the present day Catwalk follows the route of the original line.

Pipe used in the water line was delivered to the site on wagons drawn by teams of up to 40 horses. Ore was pulled down the mountain to an ore chute on the ridge just above the mill by smaller teams.

Brace holes were drilled into the solid rock walls, sometimes 20 feet above the canyon floor, to hold the timbers and iron bars that supported the smaller water line along its meandering course.

The massive rock walls of Whitewater Canyon saw few visitors until the Civilian Conservation Corps. was assigned the task of rebuilding The Catwalk as a recreation attraction for the Gila National Forest.

I am a working artist of many mediums; ceramics, copper, painting, collage, et al and proprietor of Behr Art Gallery & Gifts. Alongside this work, I design spaces and events, host workshops, markets, annual festivals, officiate weddings, and make my ever-morphing property available for others to share and enjoy. To that, I've spent nearly every day designing, decorating, reconstructing, reconfiguring and reworking this historic property, farm and gardens. The structures I've built and designed that are available for your retreat include the CABIN, the LOTUS, the POND HUT and the TREE HOUSE. The Cabin was once a bunkhouse. The previous owners moved it (rolled it on logs) to its present location. In doing so, the floor joists needed to be reattached and a foundation was constructed to stabilize the building. My brother and I cut, fitted, mudded, tied, nailed, plumbed, electrified and created a marvelous space. This is otherwise a working art studio, organic farm and orchard, with ponds, shade trees, peace, quiet and some of the darkest skies for star gazing in the nation. My backstory: A Connecticut native, I moved to Silver City/Pinos Altos New Mexico in 1970 and then to Glenwood in 1982. For twenty-two of those years, I lived on a ranch with a herd of horses and two donkeys, and my passion was endurance riding. After thousands of training hours, competitive miles, and sponsoring the Scorpion Sting Endurance Ride, I gave it up for the life I now live on this land.
