Daffodil LaneBuilt by my grandfather in 1939 on the family farm, about 25 miles northeast of Monroe, Louisiana, I moved here in late 2009. The rustic, basic house has wood floors, with many windows that let in light in all directions. The main source of heat is a fireplace that sits opposite the main door to the guest room, which also has a small window unit air conditioner. While none of the rest of the house is air conditioned, most rooms have ceiling fans and there's an attic fan. This is country living.
Savage LaneMy father built this house beginning in 1981. It is located on our 50-acre farm, about 100 yards from my house, which was originally my grandparents' place, built in 1939 by my grandfather. It is quiet, remote and peaceful, about seven miles to the nearest grocery store. There are two horses, Biscuit and Shorty, living on the farm. They are half-brothers who were born here in 2001. There is wifi in the house, though no television or screen.
