How it works

In order to reward users in mainland China, the Airbnb app has created a loyalty and value-added reward program. The higher the membership level, the more benefits you get. More membership plans are being continuously improved, so stay tuned.

About membership levels

Airbnb's members are classified into 4 levels: 

• Level 1: Newbie Traveler
• Level 2: Travel Buff
• Level 3: Ardent Geographer
• Level 4: Globetrotter

Membership level is based on the reward points earned by the Airbnb user over a certain period of time. The accumulated number of reward points determines the upgrade criteria for the member, while the newly accumulated reward points (new points = cumulative points - initial points) determine the level retention and downgrading criteria. Each level is valid for one year from the date of rating.

About upgrading criteria

Within 1 year, if the current cumulative reward points number reaches the upgrade threshold of the next level, the system will automatically upgrade you in real time and recalculate the validity period of the new level round for 1 year from the date the new level is reached. For example, if a Level 1 member's current point level is 200, the Level2 promotion threshold is 800, and the cumulative total is 850 by August 31, 2020 (the day the level is valid), they will automatically be upgraded to Level2. August 31, 2020 is the starting date for a new round of reward points accumulation, where the initial point level is updated to 850.

About retention/downgrading criteria

On the last day of a level's validity period, the system will either retain or downgrade the user's level based on the 'new points' (new points = cumulative points - initial points) gained over the past year in comparison to the level's points threshold. At the same time, the 'new points' will be used as the initial points for the new round of the membership level.

Retention case: For example, if a Level2 member has initial points of 900 and, as of the level's validity date, the total number of points is 1900, and the number of new points is 1000, when the Level2 points threshold (800) is reached, the system automatically retains the level and re-enters a new round of level validity, with the initial points updated to 1000.

Downgrade case: For example, if a Level2 member has a number of initial points of 1000 and, as of the level's validity date, the total number of points is 1200 and the number of new points is 200, when the Level2 points threshold (800) is not reached, the system automatically downgrades the member to Level 1, and the system re-enters a new round of level validity with the initial points updated to 200.

About points

Reward points are benefits provided to members by Airbnb, which can be earned by booking listings and are subject to the reward rules displayed on the product interface. Points earned can be redeemed for a variety of gifts at the Redeem Points section.

Redeeming points

Members should read the redemption rules carefully before redeeming. The reward once redeemed may not be canceled, and the points are not refundable.

The number of points needed to redeem a reward varies, as well as the number of times it can be redeemed. Details can be found on the reward redemption page and the redemption rules.

Some rewards are provided by third-party partners (i.e., 'Third-Party Rewards'). Please note that when redeeming or receiving a 'Third-Party Reward': (1) Third-party rewards will be awarded as redemption codes and have a redemption expiration date. Please go to the third-party partner's platform to redeem or collect it within the validity period according to the redemption instructions. If the redemption code expires, the points spent will not be refunded. (2) Some third-party rewards may be subject to additional shipping, postage and other applicable fees charged directly by the third-party partner, so please read the instructions on the redemption page before redeeming. (3) The third-party rewards are provided by the third-party partners who assume responsibility for quality assurance and after-sales service. If members have any problems redeeming or using the third-party rewards, they may contact the customer service of the corresponding third-party partner. (4) The rules for the use of third-party rewards are set by the third-party partners and the redeemable products or services shall be subject to actual redemption earnings.

Terms of use for points

Each point is valid for one year from the date of collection. Please use it before the expiration date, otherwise it will expire without compensation.

Points earned on different bookings can be used cumulatively.

Points earned on a single booking cannot be earned again. All points are not redeemable or transferable, nor can they be circulated in other forms and used on bookings that have already been paid for.

Members shall observe the Airbnb Platform's Terms of Service and Membership Program Rules when earning Airbnb points, and Airbnb reserves the right to recover any points awarded in the event of any breach of such Terms or Rules (including, but not limited to, fraudulent transactions and malicious orders as determined by Airbnb).

Airbnb reserves the right to suspend or cancel any membership or benefits (including, but not limited to, points earned), request the return of any membership redemption rewards received, and restrict or suspend, among others, their Airbnb account in the event of Airbnb's discovery of any breach of such Terms or Rules or improper use of the Airbnb Membership Program (including, but not limited to, fraudulent acts such as system attacks and malicious signups, or breaches such as fraudulent transactions during a Membership Level upgrade or use of Membership benefits).

Airbnb reserves the right to make adjustments or changes to these Promotion Rules to the extent permitted by applicable laws, and such adjustments or changes shall become effective on the date of publication.
